Bring Joy to a Local Family: Sponsor a Family This Holiday Season

About

The Glen Ellyn Junior Woman’s Club invites you to make a meaningful impact by joining our Christmas Baskets Sponsor-A-Family Program. For over 70 years, this program has brought warmth and support to our community, helping nearly 150 families and seniors - over 650 individuals - each year.

How You Can Help:

🎁 Sponsor a Family – Provide a local family with essentials like food, toiletries, clothing, and gifts, including toys for their children. Every family deserves holiday joy, and your sponsorship makes it possible!
🎄 Partial Sponsorships Welcome – Don’t want to go it alone? Team up with friends, neighbors, or colleagues to co-sponsor.

What Your Sponsorship Means:

Your generosity ensures that each child receives at least one new toy and families receive essential items they need. Together, we partner with local schools (D41 and D89), Glenbard West’s student council, and Glen House Food Pantry to make this program a success.

IMPORTANT DATES:

📅 Now – Contact Us to Sponsor! Email GEJuniorsXmasBaskets@gmail.com to sign up as a sponsor.
📅 Super Thursday, Dec. 12th, 8 AM–8 PM – Help prepare items for delivery at Parkview Community Church (764 St. Charles Rd., Glen Ellyn).
📅 Delivery Day, Dec. 14th, 8 AM – Bring joy to families by delivering baskets, or let our volunteers handle it for you.

Why Sponsor?

Sponsoring a family means more than giving gifts!  It’s about sharing hope and showing compassion. Your kindness directly touches the lives of local families and reminds them they’re part of a supportive community.

Christmas Baskets Sponsor-A-Family Program

About

The Glen Ellyn Junior Woman's Club has proudly served the community for over 70 years, and its Christmas Baskets Sponsor-A-Family Program stands as a flagship initiative.

Starting November 1st, this program supports nearly 150 families and seniors each year—benefiting over 650 people in total. Last year alone, our toys reached over 220 children as part of this expansive outreach.

Partnering with local elementary schools (D41 and D89 combined), Glenbard West's student council, and the Glen House Food Pantry, the program provides each child with at least one new toy and supplies families with essential items like food, toiletries, and clothing. Volunteers, including Glen Ellyn Volunteer Firefighters and Junior volunteers, deliver these much-needed supplies on Saturday, December 14th.

In the lead-up to Delivery Day, volunteers participate in "Super Thursday" on December 12th, where they help prepare items for distribution. With drop-in hours from 8 AM to 8 PM, volunteers can choose flexible shifts, or sign up as all-day helpers.

Early sign-up is encouraged, as volunteer spots fill quickly!  Sign up here.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE CHRISTMAS BASKETS PROGRAM
A thorough summary of our flagship service project

* What does it mean to sponsor a family? Each person in a sponsored family is given new gifts. Those gifts are guided by a list of needs/wishes the family provides (along with sizes/details). The needs will range from basic clothing necessities to household goods. We have families that range from very small to very large and we will help you find the family that best fits your giving parameters. We also sponsor senior citizens. * Who sponsors the families? Individuals, families, organizations, playgroups, neighborhoods, businesses, etc. are welcome to play Santa in our Christmas Baskets Sponsor-A-Family Program. * What is included in the "basket"? The word 'basket' doesn't do justice to what our sponsored families receive! Along with the new gifts that are purchased for the families, local schools and businesses host a huge toy drive to ensure that every child receives at least one new toy. Glenbard West supplies toiletries through their school-run toiletry drive. In addition, civic organizations within Glen Ellyn generously provide funding so that we, working with the Glen House Food Pantry, can purchase enough food for each family to receive a bag of non-perishable groceries, plus a gift card to purchase fresh items. * Who delivers to the families? Volunteers! Anyone who would like to bring joy to a family is welcome to be a part of our delivery team. Many groups that sponsor a family also choose to deliver personally - though this is by no means a requirement. Glen Ellyn's Volunteer Fire Department is one of our largest volunteer groups ... they deliver all morning long! * Where do these families live? All our sponsored families are local and live within the boundaries of Glen Ellyn and Glen Ellyn School Districts. * How are the families identified? School social workers identify families in need. We typically serve approximately 120 families and over 30 Seniors: affecting over 600 individuals each year. * Are there other ways to help? You can purchase gifts, donate money or gift cards, donate gifts, toys, or supplies (gift bags of all sizes, tape, tissue and wrapping paper) or donate your time. We NEED VOLUNTEERS to help us wrap toys from the toy drive, organize/assemble the "baskets" and deliver the entire lot to the sponsored families. * What if you do not have time to sponsor a family, volunteer on Super Thursday, or participate in our toy drive, etc.? Please consider donating to our Christmas Baskets Sponsor-A-Family Program. Glen Ellyn Junior Woman's Club is so fortunate to be able to coordinate this project with the participation of such a generous and supportive community. Last year, our Christmas Baskets Sponsor-A-Family Program brought the magic of the season to 653 people in 155 families within our community. Parkview's gym was packed with thoughtfully chosen gifts for each person along with food, toiletries, and extra toys and books for all the kids. Every little bit helps and any donation we receive provides a little piece of the Magic of Christmas to all our recipient families. * Where is the location? Parkview Community Church (764 St. Charles Rd, Glen Ellyn - in front of Ackerman Park) has graciously offered the use of their facility again this year.
